New Work

I have been in the throws of inspiration this lately, and have created SIX new pictures since last week. One was a landscape strait from imagination, the next was inspired by a photo my husbands friend let me use,  then a heartwarming photo of my dog Max, a sketch of my cat Puff and the other two were additions to my "Revival Series" I think I pretty much covered every medium this week. :)

On Tuesday the 9th I had the opportunity to paint with a local painting group called the Tuesday group. It was nice to paint with others for once, and after we took sometime to critique, which was a really nice change for me and I learned a lot. I didn't really know what I wanted to paint, so the night before I did a quick landscape sketch from my head, and that's what I ended up doing. It's called "Daisy Lane" it's 11"x14" acrylic. I finished most of it there, then did a couple updates that were brought up during critique when I got home. I can't wait to paint with the group again!!

It has been hot here in Maine, which makes for some gorgeous hazy sunsets. I was able to get some great reference photos one night, and it seems a lot of other people did too because this sunset popped up all over Facebook. One of my husbands friends lives on a lake and he snapped an awesome cell phone pic of the sunset that night. I was able to use that as a loose reference for my "Lakeside Sunset" painting 9"x12" Oil

As mentioned in a previous post I have started working on a series called "Revival" where I take old paintings and drawings of mine that I did when I was a kid and re-do them now as an adult to have a more realistic version and to see how much I have grown as an artist. I recently went through a scrapbook of mine and found one of my old favorite drawings of a tree frog that I did when I was 12 and decided to re-do that one. This is one of my favorites of the series so far. The original was done in Crayon and colored pencil, the new one in Watercolor and Watercolor Pencil. Here are the results.

My Sister crochets, and she crocheted me a little mini Chihuahua to match my dog Max. She asked me to take some photos for her of my Dog with the one she crocheted so she could use them as advertisement for her business. Here is my favorite from the batch.    I love color, so most of the time I paint. Every once in a while though I like to brush up on my drawing skills, so this week I decided to sketch a picture of my cat, Puff, who my family has had since I was just a little kid.
Yesterday I went through my scrapbook again and decided to do another for my Revival series. Here is my "Weeping Willow" Revival. I did the original when I was 13, they are both done in Acrylic. The new one is 11"x14" and is called "Where the Green Grass Grows" I'm not going to lie, I am still a big fan of the original :) It was still a lot of fun to do though, I made a few minor changes to make a better composition, like the fence to split the empty space up a bit.

So this is what I have been up to lately. Keep your eyes open for more updates, and in the mean time feel free to check out my website to see more of my art!!
